All the Major League Baseball fans went home happy last night, as the home teams went 15-0 for the first time in Major League Baseball history. And they beat visiting teams badly too – 80-32 in total runs!
We took the chance to compare regular season home-field advantage for MLB teams compared to other major sports, in the below Primer snip.
It’s interesting but not unexpected that college sports teams enjoy the greatest home advantage – both basketball and football teams typically play early-season games against cupcake (easy) opponents as they round into form before more difficult conference seasons. What really struck us was that NBA teams had a higher winning percentage than NFL (perhaps due to rigorous travel for NBA visiting teams?) – NFL crowds feel vastly more intense than NBA fanbases, and it seems like they’d help swing the outcome of the game. But, for 2014-15 seasons at least, the data says “not so fast my friend!”
